Nitrous Oxide Sedation: An Overview

Nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, is a mild type of sedative that effectively manages anxiety during dental appointments. The procedure involves inhaling nitrous oxide gas mixed with oxygen through a mask. You should start feeling its effects within minutes.

Laughing gas is considered a minimal form of sedation. You will stay awake during treatment and will be able to respond to directions, but you will feel relaxed and comfortable. Many patients describe a floaty, dreamy sensation or slight tingling in the hands and feet. Once the procedure is over and we remove your mask, the effects of the laughing gas will wear off immediately, allowing you to drive home and resume your daily activities without any downtime.

Moreover, our visual and audio safety features are designed to prevent adverse reactions. As with any other procedure, it’s important to let us know about any health conditions and current medications.
